Could marrying someone with Asperger’s syndrome be one way to ensure a long and happy partnership? Some couples seem to think so. Hannah Bushell-Walsh’s husband was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome two years ago, after the couple had already been married several years. The happy couple now have two children together.
Bushwell-Walsh recalls an incident at Center Parcs, when Steve interrupted a peaceful pottery session with an outburst in which he furiously protested at the “lack of rules” in the recreational village. The pair dated for eight years before marrying, meeting when Hannah was aged 28 whilst Steve was years-old.
He has a very limited social life but is so wanting to find a girlfriend and has been joining various well known dating agencies online and spending quite a bit of money to do it but he is finding it hard to accept that his aspergers may put people off. I’m 57 and have had 7 serious relationships over my lifetime – all of which have come to grief, and generally because of my difficulties.
I find cohabitation very difficult because of anxiety issues connected with control of environment, etc. My last partner was hugely untidy and messy, and though I tried very hard to compromise with her, she did very little in return.
Is this Britain’s loneliest man? Man with Asperger’s has spent 14 YEARS struggling to get a date
Autistic adults have, in general, differences in sexuality from the norm. Many more are asexual than in the average population. It is believed that there is a slightly higher pecentage of gays, lesbians, bisexual, and transgendered autistics than in the average population. Girls and women who are autistic can have more chance at success in relationships, generally speaking, than men.
This is due to differences in social requirements, where a man is often expected to ask a girl for a date, rather than vice versa. Living in a society where long-time relationships and starting a family are the norm it can be very hard for socially inexperienced men with Asperger’s to find a partner and some stay away from dating for that reason.

Relationships come in all shapes and sizes, and never moreso than for those on the autism spectrum. While this may work out wonderfully for some, naturally, compatibility is never guaranteed.
